Rögnvaldr - Historical Series

Rögnvaldr is the origins of the name Ronald, a name which is near and dear to my heart. My grandfather Ronald Richards was an avid wood carver, he masterfully carved dozens of realistic and life like birds, from ducks, to falcons and little tiny hummingbirds.

I named this knife to honour him, while the wood carving in the handle is definitely not to the same level he used to carve, I know he'd appreciate it.

The word seax simply means knife in Old English and there are many different forms of historical seaxes, from small ones like Rögnvaldr used for every day tasks to large sword sized seaxes taken into battle against one's enemies.

I made this seax with 31 layers of 15n20 nickel steel and 1084 high carbon steel giving it the unique and bold random pattern you see on the blade. The handle of Rögnvaldr is made from tough and durable African Blackwood (while beautiful it can be extremely hard to work with as my rasps and files can attest). Topping off the 11-in knife are a 1/4-in copper bolster and pommel pinned on with 4 brass pins.

Add Rögnvaldr to your collection and give this knife a nice home!

  • Knife Care

This is a high carbon steel knife and can be prone to rust. To care for it apply a light coating of oil frequently.
